Franklin Women 2020 Impact Report
WORDS BY CLARE WATSON | DESIGN BY EMMA WRIGHT
Published in December 2020, Franklin Women’s Impact Report captures the impact of the grassroots social enterprise in its first 5 years. It features stories of powerful career connections, and leadership transformed at the highest levels of health and medical research institutes and organisations.
In 2023, Franklin Women was awarded a two-year grant from NSW Health to ensure its ongoing growth and impact. The 2020 Impact Report underpinned the application.
MASSIVE Annual Report
Contributing Writer, 2020
MASSIVE is a data processing engine for Australian scientists who are capturing and analysing ever-increasing amounts of data. I profiled radiologists who are using AI to detect fungal infections on CT scans, biologists adopting imaging techniques from astronomers and the physicists tasked with upgrading the world’s largest particle accelerator.
Franklin Women Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
Researcher, 2019, 2022, 2024
Franklin Women’s Wikipedia Edit-a-thon aimed to increase the visibility of notable Australian female scientists represented on the online open-access encyclopaedia. I supported these events by compiling resources on notable women that attendees could write about.
The events received coverage in the Sydney Morning Herald, SBS, and ABC Radio National, and have become a key part of Franklin Women’s strategy.

For the 2019 UOW Outlook Alumni Magazine, I profiled an Olympic hopeful turned psychology researcher who is challenging gender stereotypes in science. I also interviewed scientists who are using their space research to better understand our planet's future.
UOW Impact Makers Magazine
Contributing writer, 2018
This series focused on early-career researchers and thought leaders who are making real change to the environment, economy, society and culture. I interviewed materials scientists, atmospheric chemists, statisticians, accountants, nurses, engineers, plus law and education experts.
